NEW RELEASES

Ali Towers

PRE ORDER NOW release date: 20th March 2010 Catalogue # NEW3276.2 The much anticipated inaugural release from Ali Towers, 'The Used Future- EP' is a collection of five remarkable folk pop songs from one of Perth's most talented emerging singer/songwriters. Collaborating with a selection of top class musicians including a string quartet, flute and Spanish guitar players, Ali Towers creates a unique sound of breathtaking complexity tamed by his uplifting voice and dark tales of loss, mortality and hope. Already 'Album of the Week' on Australian Internet Radio, it will be distributed nationally through Newmarket Music. Fresh from a successful international tour, Ali returns to Perth to launch the EP on Saturday the 20th March with the full line up including a string quartet amidst the starlit climes of the open air Amphitheatre at the Bamboo Lounge, 446 Beaufort Street, Highgate, WA. Doors Open 6.30pm to a magical summer's eve performance with special guests. Born and raised on his parents John Lennon Records in Nottingham, England. Imported to Perth, Western Australia around the turn of the century. Plays the keys, guitar, harmonica and percussion. Started writing and performing around the solo circuit and with various bands throughout Northern England and London. Followed his heart down under and put together a four-piece band, Matters of Fiction who, three short months after, won the 'Best of the Best' Competition. As part of the prize they recorded their debut EP with Les Williams (Black Eyed Peas / We Were Soldiers OST). Ali's soul is with the Blues and Folk side of Pop in the vein of Van Morrison, Ray Lamontagne, and Tom Waits, but he has a diverse back catalogue, venturing into trip hop, rock and even theatrical pieces for the Edinburgh Festival. In 2002, Ali co-wrote and recorded the successful dance track. Stay High, which debuted in Ibiza and the Miami Music festival where DJ Tall Paul added the track to his set. Before coming to Australia, Ali had been lucky enough to travel through Europe and America and has managed to play at some inspiring venues including one of CBGS's last ever gigs. Ali aspires to masterpieces such as Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, Jeff Buckley's Grace, Radiohead's Ok Computer, Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon and relishes in their ability to send shivers with powerful and lulling melodies, embedded with poetic lyrics. These factors were at the forefront of Ali's mind when he recently set foot in the studio to record The Used Future EP.
